UFS FIRST FRESHERS BALL....

I am called by the sound of house beats and the voice of screaming girls as I approach the RAG Farm. It is still round 8pm so I didn’t anticipate this but considering that the line up is consisting of South African hip hop artist such as Jub Jub, Teargas and hit-making house dj’s such as Cyndo and J Mbuso, an overflow of students is expected. The students came in full force. All for different reasons, of course.  Some for the party and some for other things of the night. The RAG Farm was brought down by local dj’s and campus dj’s such as King Fellas, Eunegma, Anza, Harmonik and many more. By the time Teargas was on stage, my friends and I had danced ourselves to a pulp. Though around 11pm, there was some a stampede going on outside. The SRC and the security staff did their best to deal with the situation, but the crowd was determined to go in for free.
Eventually the gates were opened and people entered freely. This, though, didn’t change the vibrant mood. Teargas and Jub Jub’s performance was spectacular. The ladies could not contain themselves and the groupies came out in full force. In my two years of being in Bloemfontein, I have not witnessed such an event in the campus of the University of the Free State.   The SRC members and Picture Media hosted an event to remember. If this is what the SRC has in store for 2010, I am waiting with baited breath.
